Meredith Doran is a linguist with extensive teaching and research experience in second language acquisition, applied linguistics, and sociolinguistics.  Dr. Doran’s research interests include faculty professional development in English-Medium Instruction, second language teaching and learning, Language for Specific Purposes (LSP), teacher education, and intercultural communication, with an emphasis on Vygotskyan sociocultural theory (VSCT) as a foundation for pedagogy and learner development. She has held multiple positions related to second language studies and international education, including as a teacher and teacher educator in French and Spanish, as faculty director of an education abroad program in France, as a research associate in Penn State’s Center for Language Acquisition (CLA), and more recently, as Director of EPPIC. Dr. Doran conducts research on faculty professional development in English-Medium Instruction pedagogy, spoken and written academic and professional discourse across and within disciplinary communities (e.g., economics, hospitality management, mechanical engineering) that inform EPPIC’s language support services for multilingual students, scholars, faculty and staff at Penn State.  She is also a co-founder of the Global Learning Faculty Fellows program, and leads workshops that promote intercultural communication to build connection and exchange throughout Penn State’s global university community.
