Meredith Doran

Biography:

Dr. Meredith Doran is a linguist with over 25 years of teaching and research experience in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics and Second Language Studies.  Dr. Doran’s research interests include Language for Specific Purposes (LSP), second language acquisition and pedagogy, language teacher education, sociolinguistics, and intercultural communication.  She has held multiple positions related to second language learning and international education:  as a faculty member in Applied Linguistics and French & Francophone Studies, as a French language program director, as an education abroad program director, as director of assessment and curriculum in the International Teaching Assistant (ITA) program, and as a research associate at Penn State’s Center for Language Acquisition.  In her current role as  director of EPPIC, Dr. Doran conducts research on spoken and written English as it used in specific disciplinary communities (e.g., STEM, Economics, Hospitality Management), and implements research-based language support services for  multilingual students and scholars at Penn State.  Her work in EPPIC also involves ongoing outreach and consultation with university faculty on strategies for engaging and supporting students & scholars from diverse language and cultural backgrounds.
