Dr. Meredith Doran is a linguist with over 25 years of teaching and research experience in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Learning, in the U.S. and abroad. Her research interests include Language for Specific Purposes (LSP), second language acquisition and pedagogy, language teacher education, sociolinguistics and pragmatics. Dr. Doran has worked extensively in university international programs and second (foreign) language programs, as a faculty member in the departments of Applied Linguistics and French & Francophone studies, as a language program coordinator in French, as a faculty program director in Education Abroad, as director of assessment and curriculum in the International Teaching Assistant (ITA) program, and as a research associate at Penn State’s Center for Language Acquisition. In her role as founding director of EPPIC, Dr. Doran conducts research on the patterns of spoken and written English used in specific disciplinary communities across the university (including STEM departments, Economics, Hospitality Management, Education, and more), implements research-based language support services for international multilingual students and scholars at Penn State, and consults with a variety of departments on strategies for engaging and supporting international students & scholars in the classroom and beyond.
